One thing we all love about Halloween is the various ways communities celebrate it and bring us all together. From small town festivals, night time trick or treating and more. And in those extra special towns, you still have an Annual Halloween Parade.
Well it was announced this past Friday that 2011 may be the very last year for the Annual York Halloween Parade. This would be a sad day for the 62nd Annual Event that the YWCA has been sponsoring for the last five years.
Without the help of other contributing sponsors including the YWCA, it has made the financial part of maintaining and organizing the parade a heavy task for the YWCA to do alone as a sponsor. And true to form, the parade does not have a title sponsor this year once again. These spots usually help garner about $10,000 that is the cost it takes to put on an Annual Halloween Parade.
There are smaller sponsorships as well, donations, etc. But as we all know, parades are not cheap. And everyone loves their Christmas Parades. As a Fright Freak and Halloween Junkie, we would hate to see this 62 year old tradition left in the dust.
The YWCA has been quoted as saying:
“My first choice would be to get a title sponsor and an organization that would be willing to continue, but if we just got a title sponsor, yes, we would continue doing it if we can cover our costs,” Stock said.
“If we don’t get a title sponsor, then no, because we are providing critical services to the community that are life-saving, and that is where we need to focus our priorities.”
Earlier in the parade’s years the city sponsored the event, and it still lingers in the air if they would be willing to do so once again. Local and area stores and businesses are asked to think about coming on board as a sponsor and consider helping this annual tradition continue. If you would like to help you can contact the Parade Coordinator Bernadette Green at bgreen@ywcayork.org by August 31st.
The parade will be held on Sunday, Oct. 30, starting at 2 p.m. and draws tens of thousands of York County residents each year to the parade route along Market Street, from the York Fairgrounds to Lehman Street.
