Erebus sinks its teeth into your phobias!

Odontophobia is the abnormal fear of teeth, and being bitten. It is estimated that about 75% of US adults experience some form of dental fear, be it a trip to the dentist, the local neighborhood canine, or the supernatural creatures of fantasy. While most of these fears are easily overcome for the average person, the odontophobiac lives in a panic state, unable to find ease in the presence of any potential toothsome threat. This particular phobia can be loosely related to odynophobia, an overwhelming fear of pain. We’ve never known any bite that didn’t bring about a bit of discomfort…

Ready to sink its teeth into the psyche of fearful fans everywhere is Erebus, a four story haunted house located in Pontiac, Michigan. Erebus was entered into the Guinness Book of World Records as the World’s Largest Walk-Through Haunted Attraction, from August 2005 to September 2009. Erebus, by Webster’s definition, is the darkness beneath the Earth that the dead must pass to reach Hades. In Greek mythology, Erebus is the son of Chaos and the brother of Nye (Night). For odontophobiacs, it is a living nightmare, as the prospect of unseen creatures with gnashing fangs lurking within sends torment through their very being. Unsuspecting visitors may very well find themselves trapped in the deadly grip of one of the largest, most horrific set of teeth you’re like to stumble upon. Or into.

Scared Stiff Magazine calls it “one of the top haunted houses in the country”, and Gunnar Hansen, legendary star of Texas Chainsaw Massacre says “Erebus is an unequaled, masterpiece of horror”. And who knows more about terror and human fears than Leatherface himself?
