Afraid of the forest? Spookywoods summons your fears…

by on Jul.16, 2011, under America Haunts, Haunted Houses

Nyctohylophobia is the fear of dark wooded areas, or forests at nighttime. An understandable fear, as we all know that there are unseen terrors lurking about the woods, waiting to snatch us up and whisk us away for who-knows-what purpose. A particularly nasty phobia, seeing as how its ability to immobilize a person would prevent them from escaping the threatening woodlands until the warm safety of daylight. A forest can be disorienting enough, without suffering from anxiety, shortness of breath, rapid heartbeat and trembling…scary stuff, indeed.

High Point, North Carolina-based Spookywoods knows all about this particular phobia. Enticing visitors to embark on a flashlight tour of the woods at night, Spookywoods could prove to be the very undoing of an individual suffering from Nyctohylophobia. Located on the family farm among the pines, owners Donna and Tony Wohlgemuth offer a number of attractions to visitor, including a haunted house, a dark ride through the woods on a tram, and a corn maze, all leading up to a walkthrough haunt maze within a 90,000 square foot pine forest. Pretty menacing stuff for the average Nyctohylophobic!
